While it rarely happens for indie bands to do covers without coming across a bit cliché these days, Shields from Newcastle has broken the trend with their latest venture. Undoubtedly, SBTRKT has become one of the emerging powerhouses in music, seeing huge success over the past few years thanks to tracks like “Pharaohs,” featuring Roses Gabor.
Borrowing the more upbeat mix, SBTRKT’s energy conforms well to the sound of Shields and translates effortlessly on guitar. The cover can be found on the band’s blissful Kaleidoscope EP. Comparable to Everything Everything and Friendly Fires, Shields have an infectious appeal and their cover of “Pharaohs” is no exception.
