Hypnotic, haunted, and engrossing, Stalgia's debut "In the Trees" is magnetic. Channeling a downtempo R&B attitude like early tracks by The Weeknd and intertwining it with the darker side of pop present in work by Banks and FKA Twigs, this new duo leaves a lasting impression. "In the Trees" starts as a melodic, smooth, but slightly off-kilter exercise in composition blending airiness with malevolent atmosphere. The beats are mild and allow us to get lost in the haze of this warm soundscape as Lauren Day's vocals caress you. It's slightly tainted fluff with a palpable charm which makes it infinitely listenable. "In the Trees" is essentially the audio equivalent of crushed velvet.
