Hayley Coupon makes the fine choice of putting a bluegrass twist on one of our psychedelic favorites, Tame Impala's "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" from 2012's Lonerism. With just an acoustic guitar, banjo, and upright bass, the New York singer-songwriter's soulful swooning croon crafts a gentle dulcet tone to the longing tune that makes it feel more like an Appalachian folk standard than its original Australian indie rock pysch roots while still remaining quite true to the song.The self-taught Coupon recently released her debut EP Remembrance and cites influences ranging between the likes of Joni Mitchell to Radiohead, and here she demonstrates the ability to weave experimental rock into lavish folk.
