Why do we like this?

Warning: This song is from 1997.

Let us recoup for a moment what significant events occurred in that year. Mother Teresa and Princess Diana both sadly passed. Other than that it doesn't seem like much. So, we can safely say that it was a pretty boring year.

But, if music like "Modular Mix" was being made then surely it wasn't all bad. Or, perhaps 1997's bland nature permeated into music as well?
