Alt - J have always been good at playing with sounds - they can go hard and they can bring it down to a whisper. "Powders" is a deep pool track, it's a sound you'd hear underwater, cold, quiet distorted, and floaty all spinning in the currents.
It has this beautifully layered construction of ambient background, narrative script, and vocal performances. Alt J has always constructed layered (almost performance arty) pieces, but "Powders" is a whole different creature filled with nuance and energy.
