Altrice Siphon Away

Have you ever loved an album so much that you wish you could go back to before it came out and experience it all over again? Well kids, this actually happened, in a manner of speaking. Caribou's 2010 album Swim was one of the best albums of the year past, and a producer named Mike Sadatmousavi has excitingly remixed the entire thing. Under the moniker Altrice, Sadatmousavi reinvigorated each track into something with distinctive glamour while paying homage the integrity of the original songs.

Dan Snaith (Caribou himself) released remixes of Swim under the European label City Slang last year, Altrice making the cut for his misty remix of "Sun." Altrice also renamed the album Stem, and changed the title of each track. Each iteration carries a slow molasses feeling, a great contrast to Caribou's original energetic heaviness; they are thought-provoking and give the feeling of a infinite night walk next to the ocean, ebbing and flowing.

As for information about Altrice, there simply isn't much out there -- he seems to be extremely private. Using all my best sleuthing skills, I gathered that he's an artist out of Tucson, Arizona, and had some hesitation about releasing the track in the first place. Some encouragement from Snaith got him to go forward with the release, and now we're able to listen to this lovely compilation. Hopefully we will be hearing more from Altrice soon, maybe even some original tunes.
