Years ago, I stumbled across an inspiring Ted Talk Amanda Palmer gave years ago. I haven’t been able to stop following her music progression since then. (And I was only 14!)
Palmer is always trying to step further outside the box. She’s forever in the process of experimenting and creating, and this new song is only a part of that journey.
Her deep vocal range is especially beautiful to me and I love her alto range. Sometimes hitting the low notes is just as striking as the high notes, which she proves in “Solid Rock” as her heavy voice sinks deep into her chest. I also love songs like this where she’s relentless on the piano, like the wonderful keys you’ll hear in different spots on this track.
She falls into the genre of dark cabaret, which explodes through this song. While she’s a fluid artist, that's one part of her discography that she never strays too far away from.
“Solid Rock” is from the album,Amanda Palmer & Friends Present Forty-Five Degrees: Bushfire Charity Flash Record.
