Why do we like this?

Phoniks is a rising producer from Portland, Maine. His soulful production is resolutely vintage, reminiscent of the 90's hip-hop golden age.

Since 2013 and his critically acclaimed Return to the Golden Era album with emcee Awon, the two have been insanely productive, dropping new albums and remixes at breakneck speed. You can download most of their work on Don't Sleep Records' website here

According to Awon, "the song is about the personal struggle of aging. Hair being the metaphor for youth in this sense outlines the feelings of a man that feels like his window of opportunity is closing in Hip Hop because balding is a marker of age or escaping youth."

Phoniks being one of my all-time favorites, I'll soon create a playlist gathering his dopest tracks and remixes. Keep posted :)
