Why do we like this?
Bon Iver's back with a new single! Immediate reaction throughout the blogosphere has been mixed, with some noting that this track is hella dull. Song by Toad said, for example: "That new Bon Iver tune is so dull it actually crashed Firefox." [link]
Personally, I'm on the fence. I've always been that way with Justin Vernon. This track features a slow buildup, quickly improved upon by the introduction of layered vocals and drums. It gets me at the bridge, about two-and-a-half minutes in. That's when I actually quite begin to like it. Which means, by default, that I can't necessarily agree with initial criticism.
I think I like it.
