Why do we like this?
While Philadelphia might be best known for its crazy sports fans and its awesome sandwiches, something that it should be known for is its growing punk rock scene. Carrying the torch for the movement is the three lovely ladies of Cayetana.
Reflecting the true do-it-yourself punk rock spirit, Cayetana has come together to share their passion for music and their story with the world. Learning how to play their instruments as they went, they have collectively taken all of their influences and wrapped them up in their own brand of grrl rock, paying tribute to those who have come before them like Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kenny -- not paying attention to the fact that they're an all-girl group and instead putting the focus on crafting catchy, punk-influenced indie rock.
While they might not have known a whole lot about their instruments when they started their band, the sum of their parts definitely adds up on their track "Hot Dad Calendar." Set to be officially released as a 7" on February 2 (you can pre-order care of Tiny Engines Records right here), "Hot Dad Calendar" shows three individuals totally in-tune with each other whether it be musically or emotionally, and most importantly they share a common vision. Distorted guitars and angst come together in the perfect clarity of people making the music they want to make, scene or radio be damned. And all with that "Philadelphia, get out of my way, I'm doing it my way" spirit.
Keep an ear out for Cayetana... just don't get in their way.
