Why do we like this?
The guest verses and collaborations from Danny Brown since XXX have steered him more and more into EDM/drug/party rap territory. While I wasn't turned off by it, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't miss the reckless street wordplay of The Hybrid, Hot Soup and his stellar Detroit State of Mind mixtape series.
Lucky for me, The Hybrid's latest leak from his upcoming album Old takes him back to when he'd find innumerable ways to compare his automobile's interior to some kind of condiment. Through some seriously beefed-up production from Paul White, Danny goes back to his braided days over boom-bap with a classic rock tinge. The hook even scratches in the hook to The Hybrid's "New Era."
This only spikes the intrigue for Old. Many were sure Danny was going to run with the molly-infused style he'd seemingly been honing, but "Side A" hints at a much more diverse album. I have supreme confidence in Linwood's native son.
