Why do we like this?

It's been a while since I've shared anything in the Gramatik/Pretty Lights vein of sound, but Dr. Mechanic has managed to spark an old flame.

Speaking of which, I've always struggled with the right categorization for this sound. Is it instrumental hip-hop? Sorta. Trip-hop? Nah, but kinda. Balkan beats? Too slow.

Doesn't really matter, does it? What's important is that it's groovy, and on that count Dr. Mechanic exceeds expectations.
