Why do we like this?
Music in its purest form is a culmination of life events colliding with a desperate desire to share one's soul set over melody.  Whether these life experiences are  places lived, positive things, or negative things, one thing is for certain -- when it all comes together, you can't help but listen. That is exactly what happened for Eli Mardock and his first solo LP Everything Happens for the First Time.

Coming off both the successes and failures of his previous band Eagle Seagull, Mardock has found a clear vision as he embarks upon the world of a solo career.  Following the release of two different EPs in which the multi-instrumentalist had completely taken control of every aspect of the records, Everything Happens for the First Time finds him ready to really make some waves.

The lead single (which shares a name with the album) is a reminder of why some many people had fallen in love with Eagle Seagull originally. It's a catchy indie pop tune filled with soaring string arrangements, driving bass, and, of course, Mardock's croon. "Everything Happens for the First Time" is very much a throwback to the past, with its vintage feel, Beatles references, back-up vocals, and awesome hand claps leading off the track. It also serves as the perfect vehicle for Mardock to tell his story.

For a man familiar with second chances in the record industry, apparently everything really does happen for the first time. You can go pick up Everything Happens for the First Time off of Paper Garden Records' homepage for only $7; it definitely will be worth your while.
