Sometimes “Salt” is haunting and distant, and other times it has a beat you can really groove to. But no matter where you are in the song, it's always wicked catchy. Even though she keeps things pretty low-key, the synth is amazing. “Salt” is about being over all the gossip and rumors other people spread. Essie Holt unapologetically calls out all the nonsense drama. While I bet she’s a little salty towards the negative people, I'm sure the title is more of a reference to the lyrics that talk about the sea, like the line, “I want to be oceans apart.” Holt feels confident and able to stand up to anyone. I get a major sense of girl power throughout this track, which is perfect for everyone in need of some empowerment and encouragement.
