Why do we like this?

Toronto synth-pop outfit For Esmé is gearing up for two very big two things. First, they have recently been named among the lineup to play shows at the CMJ music festival in New York City in October. Plus, their debut album Sugar is due next month as well!

Premiering on Indie Shuffle today, “Make A Sound” is the latest taste from Sugar. Their music is described by their publicist as sitting somewhere uniquely between confession and confection, and I’d say that’s absolutely correct. Vocalist Martha Meredith injects a sweetness, but lyrically this track has a darker meaning to it.

Says Martha of this track:

"The song is about the endless need in this industry, in this generation, to show everyone how great your life is and how exhausting that is. I catch myself feeling regret for not thinking to capture a special moment on camera, then catch myself, ‘why isn’t the moment itself enough?"

She’s right, huh? Living in the moment doesn’t mean we have to capture it. A thought for us all next time we reach for our favorite photo sharing app...

Sugar will be out October 16. Jump on For Esme’s Facebook page for announcements.
