Grandbrothers seem pretty much incapable of missing the mark. The German-Swiss duo, long known for crafting electronic-leaning music entirely from a single grand piano and some ingenious custom mechanics, continue to make work that’s consistently breathtaking.
When I saw them live in Austin, they mentioned they were ready to break out of their self-imposed piano-only rule. In 2025, they followed through with Elsewhere — a new chapter that folds in drum samples and analogue synths without losing the precision and emotional pull they’re known for.
“Cybèle,” their latest release, leans into that expanded palette. It twists, builds, and moves with the intricate detail that’s become a Grandbrothers signature, even as their sound pushes into something new.
