Premiering on Indie Shuffle today is the brand new track from much-loved Australian duo Gypsy & The Cat.
It makes me so happy that Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers continue to make music together. Their first album Gilgamesh from 2010 stands out in my mind as one of the best ever Australian indie pop albums.
Last year they released a 6-track EP in Hearts A Gun seemingly out of nowhere and there's been persistent whispers of another full length album ever since.
"Inside Your Mind" feels like classic Gypsy & The Cat for its recognizable style of roaming synths, strong use of guitar and soaring vocals. I can hear a deeper electronic undertone in this track when compared to some of their previous work. Word is they worked with legendary American producer David Fridmann to produce this work.
Says Xavier and Lionel of this track..
"Inside Your Mind" was written in the throws of a Melbourne winter. We had been thinking of our time in Japan and wanted to write a piece of music that represented the same contrasts in old and new ideas present in Japanese culture.
