Why do we like this?
I knew earlier this week that I wanted to write about Helios for this post but I wasn't exactly sure of what to say until this morning. Today marked the first day where I really felt the change of the seasons. Leaves of all different colors were blowing from every direction as I drove into work, and as they floated past, my mind could only think of one thing: autumn.
I immediately thought of the warm, natural colors used for the cover of Helios' newest album, Unleft. Beyond that, I remembered the soft, cinematic vibe that frontman Keith Kenniff creates on every single track. This release fits so well with the fall state of mind, so I'm happy that I found this while I still have the time to appreciate the pairing.
While I would consider the downtempo pieces from Boards of Canada to be psychedelic, Helios offers more of a classical approach, almost creating a soundtrack to the life of the listener. If you're into mellow electronic pieces, consider Unleft as a solid companion for the upcoming months.
