Why do we like this?
Hyperdub, what a staple label to follow. The UK label (home to the great Burial) is readying to release the first LP since 2010 from Ikonika, lady and electronic musician.
Featuring the dulcet vocals of Jessy Lanza, "Beach Mode (Keep It Simple)" gives advice any 2010's progressive woman could identify with: "If you really want it, don't make it emotional. If you really want it, baby, keep it simple." The clean, jazzy synths and drum machine mimic the fun yet apathetic tone of the vocals and lyrics, definitely giving this tune a retro feel. Not necessarily the woman-power anthem our feminist mothers may have listened to, but the message still stands.
The LP, titled Aerotropolis, will release on July 29 via Hyperdub.
