Brighton duo IYES have just dropped "Gone," the second single from their Part Two EP, due for release on their own label Love By Mistake on October 12.
Comprised of Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanová, the duo are based in Berlin for the winter, and have been a firm Indie Shuffle favorite since they started making music in 2013.
"Gone" starts out sounding like a stripped back, R&B-inspired jam, but quickly escalates into glitchy, ambient electro pop, each beat clean and precise.
The male and female vocals work well together -- coming together, separating, tag teaming each other. A tale of love lost and commitment, the relatively upbeat instrumentation belies the deeper message behind the track, hinted at by the darker sounds simmering below the surface.
Is it pop? Is it R&B? Is it a weird club anthem? Or is it all of the above? This is a cacophony of sounds my brain can't process into any particular genre, and music like this always makes me happy.
