Why do we like this?
Today I want to share a song that evokes several masters, past and present. First up is Flying Lotus, the man who gave Farnell Newton the idea of covering another legend, J Dilla.
In the cover, trumpeter Farnell Newton adds a solo (in the style of Miles Davis) to the instrumental of Slum Village's "Fall In Love." The results are phenomenal. The relaxed vibe of the original is given an air of sophistication by the trumpets, showing what could have happened if Dilla had combined with some of his heroes (or if they had MPC's in the 50's!).
You can check out more of Farnell's work over at his website.
