I've only just been introduced to neo-soul/R&B artist James Chatburn, but I can already tell he's going to be a mainstay for me. Hooked by tracks like "Divine Disaster" and "Creator," I couldn't wait to delve into this new release.
While "Cracks and Breaks" is admittedly not as upbeat as his previous work, Chatburn uses this song to display a more vulnerable, nuanced side of his artistry. The Aussie artist takes his time with this one, reveling in deep, emotive notes backed by understated instrumentation. His velvety vibrato and layered melodies echo throughout, building and crumbling like heavy waves.
The lyrics elucidate the fragmentation of soul one feels when overwhelmed by the chaotic nature of the world. A beautiful message in both concept and execution.
