Why do we like this?

Although her career is only beginning, London-based, Northampton-born Jay Brown has already played Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing stage -- so you know she's on the right track. And you only need to listen to this once to see what that track is.

Simple -- hauntingly simple -- guitar notes lead the way on "Diamond," while Brown's vocals slither along, deep and husky, the melody snaking its way through the verses.

The track lifts up between each verse, as new layers enter the picture and the music begins to open, warming up with that gorgeous tone you only find with strings. The melody, and its harmonies, rise up to an angelic level, moving their way up into alt-pop territory.

I love the contrast between the sections in this track. The rhythmically basic, seductively eerie verses mingle with the dulcet choruses in such an interesting manner.

"Diamond" is being official released on December 15 through Turn First Records.
