Why do we like this?

What I learned by listening to Joel St. Julien's EP, Every Rise, is that he is showing off his multi-instrumentalist background and talents all over it.

You will mostly be listening to a lot of experimentalism, but if you pull your ears a bit closer into the construction of the sounds, you will experience a medley of different genres, each and every time.

"Every Rise," the title single off the EP, is probably the best all around work on the EP -- the most listenable to one for a mass audience.

It begins with an eerie piano progression that's leaving the door with you of an abandoned mansion. As you walk out of that mansion and into endless fields, a distant howling starts to play. The night is cold and dark, but you must move forward.

As you begin to see a light through the tall crops, a dirt road that you are happy to see, appears. This road will take you back to safety. You have seen this road before.

The story continues with you as you experience "Every Rise" instead of just listening to see what the sounds do to or for you. Where that story ends up is going to is solely left for you to decide.
