John Legend - I Know Better

Why do we like this?

There are few male vocalists as talented as John Legend. The man has a voice for the ages and as he prepares for the release of his fifth solo album, Darkness And Light, the Ohio native has given us another taste of what to expect with single "I Know Better."

The opening track to the album, "I Know Better" is less poppy than predecessors "Love Me Now" and "Penthouse Floor."

Over sparse production featuring a delicate piano and gospel inspired organ, Legend opens his heart as he declares "Legend is just a name" and  sings simultaneously about not letting his past indiscretions define him while embracing who he is and where he has come from, particular as a man of African American heritage.

It's powerful stuff, and while slightly sombre, is another showcase of Legends songwriting and vocal ability.

Darkness And Light is released this Friday December 2.
