Kan Wakan is the alter ego of Bulgarian born, L.A. based artist Gueorgui Linev. His talent is varied and far reaching. A songwriter, film composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, he thoughtfully crafts each facet of his music.
"Molasses" marries the soft ease of Zero 7 with the production style of Massive Attack. Featuring snaking vocals from Elle Olsun, it writhes through hypnotic melodies, striking pianos, and even a harmonica solo.
Linev composed the melody to this song on his grandmother's piano on a trip to his home in Bulgaria after she had been taken to the hospital. In his words:
“Molasses is allowing the weight to fall with a hope, a self-heartened embrace of the burgeoning we see before us. A clearing and a rising fog, that moment when we take stock of our surroundings and realize we have changed.”
