In the case of Maribou State, one really needn't ask "what's so good?" about this track. Better to just move on to the obvious: this remix of Kelis's "Friday Fish Fry" is GREAT, which should come as excellent news to Kelis, who remains... decent.
Can I tell you how I really feel about Kelis? Her talents don't quite match the variety of styles she promotes. Rather, it waters her down with "basic." It's when she works with great producers that her vocal power really shines.
While "Friday Fish Fry" might have been a pretty bland song in its original format, the duo that is Maribou State, in collaboration with UK's Pedestrian, have turned this track and Kelis into something impressive.
Full of feeling, vibrant and strong — stylistically not too far from Maribou's Tongue EP (which happens to be one of my favorites),this remix will certainly be a welcomed addition to any playlist. Enjoy!
