Little Racer is a four-piece band emerging from the Brooklyn music scene. In 2014, they released Modern Accent via PaperCup Music, an EP of six infectious indie pop songs. I first saw them at the CMJ music marathon in 2014, and have been hooked on their sound since then.
"Vanessa" is a standout tune, with the bassline immediately calling for you to bop your head along to the beat. Shimmery surf rock guitars chime in and out as the song progresses, and the vocals sound both far away and present at the same time, in a dreamlike way.
The lyrics represent unrequited love, rife with worry about the singer's feelings being returned. The result of all of this is a classic indie rock song that begs to be listened to on repeat.
