Why do we like this?

The end of the year often throws up a few tasty musical treats, and Lontalius is one I'm happy to devour. The solo project of 17-year-old New Zealander Eddie Johnston, "Light Shines Through" is the teenager's first official single, and it's absolutely breathtaking.

He's well known for his covers of Top 40 hits as well as collaborations with Ryan Hemsworth and Tunji Ige, but "Light Shines Through" demonstrates the spine-tingling songwriting of New Zealand's next big thing.

Simultaneously haunting and beautiful, Johnston's dreamy vocals float over the acoustic guitar-turned-piano production, leaving you with a sense of heart wrenching fulfillment.

It's a big call, but "Light Shines Through" is one of the best tracks I've heard this year.
