Matt and Kim's reputation for putting on wildly entertaining live sets precedes them, and after catching them at Coachella yesterday I can absolutely see why. It was unconditional love and organized chaos rolled into one giant, bumping musical party. Absolutely bonkers in the best way.
Everything they do comes from this place of infectiously breathless enthusiasm, which seems especially true of their brand new EP WE WERE THE WEIRDOS, a four-track collection they announced mid-set after explaining how it was recorded during a re-invigorated fit of inspiration in the week between their first and second Coachella appearances.
Despite covering some pretty personal subject matter lyrically, it sounds as crazy, bright, and danceable as the Matt and Kim work we've all come to know and lose our minds to.
"Let's Run Away" is my personal favorite -- a hard-hitting, endorphin-releasing piece that totally reflects the fiery spontaneity with which it was made. Turn it up like you know they will when it hits a stage near you.
