Glasgow is a real musical hotbed these days. As well as Jackmaster and the affiliated Numbers crew, it is also home to JD Twitch, one of the UK's foremost producers of African music as well as a nascent grime scene headed by the likes of DJ Milktray. Another name we can now add to that list is that of Mermaids, who is plotting a sound all of their own.
Mermaids' sound is more indebted to the world of disco and soul than most of their Glaswegian contemporaries, with standout track "Night Walkin" a re-edit of New Orleans R&B legend Allen Touissant's "Night People."
If you recognize this one, it's probably because Jackmaster opened his Mastermix 2014 with the track. There's no release info as yet, but keep your eyes on Mermaids' Facebook for more.
