Monophona - Thumb

Why do we like this?

With its blend of intimate vocals, eerie electronics, and bluesy basslines, new single “Thumb” from Luxembourg’s Monophona will transfix you.

The brainchild of Claudine, a singer-songwriter with folk rock roots, and Chook, who first made a name for himself as a DJ and drum and bass producer, this talented band originally came to our attention with “Give Up,” which was Song of the Day back in 2013. Now, with a new dynamic brought by percussionist Jorsch, the trio has become an even greater force to be reckoned with.

Morphing acoustic and electronic elements may have flopped in lesser hands, but Monophona make their worlds meet in a way that seriously works, with Claudine’s breathy, Julia Stone-esque vocals perfectly complementing Chook’s edgy electronics.

Deliciously dark, with an unsettling video to match, this is the first cut from their new album, Black On Black, which was just released over the weekend.
