Monsts Island Czars - It's About Time

Why do we like this?

I love the feeling of this joint. Gritty and textured, hip-hop coming out of the East Coast in the late 90s immediately made you feel like putting on a bomber jacket and grabbing a Dutch.

The good people at Dope Folks Records have carved a niche reissuing, and sometimes debuting, hard to find and overlooked gems from this time period or just music that embodies that screwface, Sour Diesel-smoking aesthetic.

Metal heads that don't listen to Metallica will recognize the Monsta Island Czars, or M.I.C. crew, from MF DOOM's early days. Truly shrewd L-rollers will recognize some of Megalon's bars from an alternate version of Daniel Dumille's classic "Rhymes Like Dimes." Only nerds will remember when DOOM dissed his affiliates by flipping their crew name into Midgets Into Crunk. Cold world.
