Wanna know how to pronounce Toro y Moi?
Toh-roh E Mwah.
Don' worry, you're not odd for not knowing...he's odd for coming up with such an obscure name. But it's his 'odd' that makes us love his music, so we're not complaining.
What's The Origin?
One story is that he came up with his name while on a family holiday–he saw a bunch of things and took the letters from them and combined them to make Toro y Moi. The other, is lingual–toro and y are Spanish for 'bull' and 'and' and moi is French for 'me.' So it's either the name of a bored kid on a family trip or someone who likes to think of himself as 'bull and me.' You can decide.
Chaz Bundick
His actual name is Chaz Bundick; full name Chazwick Bradley Bundick. Chaz started his music career in an indie rock band called The Heist and The Accomplice. When he released his first album, Causers of This, as Toro y Moi in 2010, he then toured supporting Caribou and Phoenix.
Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2
He collaborated with The Mattson 2, a jazz duo, to release an album called Star Stuff. Indie Shuffle writer, Aaron Blum had the following to say about the single:
"Star Stuff" by Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2 is one of the best psych-rock tracks I've ever heard.
