Py

Polyethers

Sounds like: Moloko, Portishead, Sinead Harnett, SBTRKT
Bringing back warm memories of Moloko with a touch of Portishead, London-based vocalist Py puts a new swing on those trip-hop vibes with "Polyethers."I'm going to agree with other press she's been receiving and say, yes, Py does show massive promise, but the foundation beneath the careful steps of "Polyethers" really fails to break any new ground. The deep garage bass production by Jimmy Edgar is a good compliment to Py's soulful stylings, and although the lyrical message begs to be taken seriously, and the fuzzed out synth excites the mood here and there, I'm still left feeling a bit bored. That being said, it's a solid track, albeit being a bit safe, and if this is the first delivery from Py in almost a year, I'd be willing to bet she's got some power-packed musical gems in her creative reserve tank.Available June 30 via Champion Records, "Polyethers" will make it impact despite my subjective jargon, but to each his own and all that.
