Why do we like this?

The sheer volume of quality Australian electronica never ceases to amaze me. Just when you think you're across everything the genre can through at you, you find another incredible act ready to carve out their own niche. Today's niche-carver is Melbourne producer Raudie McLeod, an artist who sites ambient artists like Nicolas Jaar, Caribou, and Four Tet as inspirations.

His debut single "Marcus" is a wonderfully varied release, shifting gears a number of times throughout its five+ minutes. A haunting, ghostly opening is quickly combined with well-placed samples and persistent rhythms, creating a throbbing, atmospheric landscape. There's something terrifically otherworldly about the way this song progresses.

McLeod's bio and a sampler found on his SoundCloud speak of a truly versatile artist, with his music ranging from "slowed down grooves to disco sample heavy dance".

Niche carved.
