Sababa 5 X Yurika

I once heard a song stuck in one's head referred to as 'mental anguish', and that stuck with me. Largely because I don't quite know what that means, but color me curious. So let's unpack that together while Kino Todo & Danelz' remix of "Nasnusa" plays in the background... a song that has quite aptly been rolling around in my head for the last few days. Thought, we're told, doesn't need to stop for there to be meditation. So why would a song stuck on loop be considered anguish? Perhaps the anguish comes from our relationship to the looping, rather than from the mere presence of the song. The brain has registered a pattern. It reproduces the pattern. We notice the loop, and then we struggle against it. Perhaps that is where the suffering comes in. So let us simply listen to the song. Let us notice when it returns, like a cloud passing through the sky. What is it that knows this song is occurring? Just look. And this is where a seemingly trivial earworm becomes quite profound. It is known. The song can loop, but awareness isn't necessarily doing anything repetitive.
