Spring has begun and San Cisco are here to use a little of their Australian sunshine to remind me of my recent break-up with their dreamy new single “Hey, Did I Do You Wrong?”
After an electronic follow up to their sophomore album with “SloMo,” the band returns to their beachy sound with this much more easygoing record. “Hey, Did I Do You Wrong?” sounds a lot like its been primed for a teen movie montage, especially based on the accompanying music video that makes it seem like San Cisco has never seen anything but a sunny day. But, really, in what other context would it make sense to hear all that tambourine and twangy guitar?
However, the song’s somber story of someone who still so deeply cares about an old friend gives a lot more depth to its otherwise chill vibes. If all songs about heartbreak were so seamlessly put together and comforting to hear, we’d all be ready to join San Cisco on their next adventure right away. Until then, at least we’ve got this one breezy, reflective tune to prep for the seasons ahead.
