Why do we like this?

Annie Clark had already teased towards a departure from the sound we'd gotten used to on "Masseduction," saying her new album would feel like New York City in the 70s. She delivers on this new banger of a track.

"Pay Your Way in Pain" gives us semi-spoken Bowie-esque vocals, it gives us thumping synthesizers, it gives us wavy Electric Ladyland guitars, all through the quintessential St. Vincent filter. How she continues to make stylistic changes while also remaining original and unique, God only knows.

St. Vincent's upcoming album, Daddy's Home, comes out May 14th. Right in time for a St. Vincent summer.
