Causation — an action by one thing is said to cause a change in another thing. In the case of The Florets debut album, a tear in the eardrum of their lead singer caused a change in the band's sound.
Trying to sing as gently as possible, a relaxed falsetto vocal approach became the only option and so, we find ourselves with the likes of "Tip Toe." This single from the Melbourne-based 5-piece alt-psych group is like a spiced whisky on a hazy day — it can't heal a burst eardrum, but my god does it feel good.
I'd be revealing myself as a sadist if I said I'm glad that their eardrum burst but...it's kind of true! I'm an absolute sucker for a falsetto vocal performance...combine that with some delectably catchy melodies and, well, I'll be happy about whatever causes and conditions had to take place to produce such a result.
"Tip Toe" was released with a music video and can be found on Spotify too. Serving suggestions: free from burst eardrums and definitely with a whisky in hand. Enjoy!
