Why do we like this?

The Jezabels are easily one of my favorite Aussie from the past five years. Infusing indie rock with tremendous pop sensibilities, the Sydney four piece put out a trilogy of EPs between 2009-2010 before dropping their long-awaited award-winning debut, Prisoner, in 2011. The album reached the number two spot on the Aussie charts and led to multiple awards, hit singles, and tours, with the band quickly becoming a household name down under.

Fast forward a few years and The Jezabels are in the studio recording their yet-to-be-named follow-up LP. While they are staying tipped lipped on the album details, we do know it's set for a 2014 release, and first single will be "The End," which appeared online today.

Produced by  Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey, Keane, The Kooks), "The End" is a polished, expansive indie pop jam sure to please fans. But for all its joyfulness, lyrically "The End" is rather heavy, with lead singer Hayley Mary explaining its meaning below:

"'The End' is a song about a time that I think we all reach at some point in our lives, where you are not sure you can go on, not sure that you have anything left to give. When you're on your knees asking yourself, 'Is this the end?'"

Lyrics aside, "The End" is catchy as hell, with a real summery feel to its arrangement, which will no doubt find The Jezabels soundtracking many an Aussie BBQ.
