4AD just scored big time with the signing of The Lemon Twigs, a band formed by Long Island natives Brian and Michael D’Addario, who are only 19 and 17 years old respectively.
The news comes with the release of a new single called “These Words,” a sunny and dynamic tune showcasing multi-instrumental prowess (is that a xylophone around 2:30?), wildly catchy songwriting, and a mastery of emotion-controlling tempo changes.
I was born about three decades later and so were they, but I still feel like this song takes me back to some imagined memory where I’m blissfully riding in the back of a late 60’s Volkswagen Kombi on my way to a Monkees show wearing lots of denim and bright colors. It goes without saying that these guys have talent well beyond their years.
"These Words" will be included on their debut record with 4AD, to be released later this year.
