Why do we like this?

The Lovers Key is comprised of Christopher Moll and Maco Monthervil, and bring along Brian Hill (bass), Steve Copeletti (drums) and Markis Hernandez (saxophone) for their live lineup.

I was able to catch them live last month at Respectable Street Cafe in West Palm Beach, and a few days ago, I was able to catch up with Christopher Moll to discuss the direction of band and upcoming releases. Before you read on, press play on my favorite song off the album, "Who's the One You Love?" -- it's the song featured here.

How did The Lovers Key originally form?
Maco responded to a Craigslist ad, he reached out to me and I wrote back within ten minutes; I knew of him through Postmarks' Twitter. We met socially and hit it off, then two days later we got together in the studio. "Who's the One You Love?" and "Bright Eyes Black Soul" fell out right away, and I knew that was a really good sign and that it was promising for a continued relationship.

How was music recorded for the album?
I recorded all the music for the album version. I did have some help, but it was not done with the same lineup that you see now. I was trying to barrel through it, to get it out as quick as possible. I figured I'd sort other details out later -- like how it would shape up live. We will see what happens in the future, maybe this lineup will record the next batch of songs.

When is the official release date for your album, Here Today Gone Tomorrow ?
We had a soft released it to family and friends in April. We put a live lineup together for a full release in the fall. The date is  September 23rd, and it'll include some bonus tracks.

What are the new bonus tracks that are included?
We have three extra tracks, including a French version of "Who's The One You Love?" and two remixes, including "Saturday Night" by The Postmarks. That's the first new material from The Postmarks in four years.

How did The Postmarks get together to remix The Lovers Key?I am still really close with other members of The Postmarks. Being the songwriter of both bands, a lot of it kinda blends and blurs together. It was an interesting challenge to remix yourself with another heading. I reached out to everyone and felt like it was the right time, and decided to give it a shot and see what happened. We are all pretty happy with end result.

Any tours coming up and any additional releases for tours?
On September 30, we are releasing a pre-tour EP, Live! at Respectable Street, which was recorded back at our August 22nd show. The track we are sharing with Indie Shuffle readers is "Who's the One You Love?" -- it's recorded from there. We were really happy with the way the performance came out. It was very representative of our live show. We are going out on the road for an East Coast run in the first week of October.

Are you happy about how the band and music is currently developing?
I think it's always hard to tell what comes next after you record any album. From experience, I feel that there have always been one or two tracks that pointed the way forward. In The Postmarks, that was true for us as a way of foreshadowing the next album. I think for The Lovers Key, our live version is developing very progressively. We'll see where it goes. "Who's the One You Love?" and "Bright Eyes, Black Soul" seem to be pointing us forward at the moment.
