Why do we like this?

It’s finally here.

Two years ago, Australian artist Julia Jacklin covered “Someday” by The Strokes for Triple J’s "Like a Version" and now it’s been officially recorded and released on all platforms. Goodbye rewinding on Youtube to satisfy my fix – and hello blasting this in my car with the windows down for everyone to hear!

Jacklin takes The Strokes’ classic alternative sound and breathes some more mellowness into it. It brings the louder, more urgent energy of the original track to a softer place with a drawn out tempo, languid chords, and her wonderfully plaintive vocals.

Though the fundamental lyrics of the song are the same, they shine in a different way in this cover. For example, as Jacklin crescendos into the line, “I’m working so I won’t have to try so hard,” making an unforgettable cover that’s still beautifully refreshing after two years.
