Why do we like this?

Chicago rapper Vic Mensa is a favorite of mine, and it seems I'm not the only one, with XXL naming him part of their2014 Freshman Class, finally pushing the talented artist into the mainstream.

Building on the success of last year's acclaimedINNANETAPE release, Mensa is readying the Street Lights EP, with "Major Payne" the latest single getting the blog treatment.

While it has nothing to do with the film of the same name, "Major Payne" is a spacey, drill-esque production (courtesy ofMichael Uzowuru) that finds Mensa rapping about one of hip-hop's favorite subjects: groupies.

Add in previous singles "Feel That"and "Down On My Luck,"and Street Lights EP is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the latter half of 2014.
