Hailing from Preston in Northern England, White Flowers are the collaborative effort of Joey Cobb and Katie Drew, who have expressed they were, "...brought up on the sounds of '80s Manchester, though too young to have experienced it first hand, and make gloriously gothic dreampop that’s as ambiguous as it is beautiful and exciting."
It's as perfect an introduction as you could hope for, and their debut track, "Night Drive," with a helping hand in production from Doves' guitarist, Jez Butterworth, they concoct a dreamy, atmospheric soundscape that is truly easy to get lost within. A swirling electronic drone wavers in over a pounding percussion, as breathy, Daughter-esque vocals float effortlessly in and out of the track's progression. It's subtly experimental whilst always accessible, and clearly crafted with meticulous attention to detail. A spellbinding, confident debut.
"Night Drive" is out now on Tough Love records, available via Bandcamp as a double A-side single, which also features the track "Portra." Get on board and up to speed now, as more material is promised for later in 2020.
