Alright shufflers, I need to tell you about this band YAWN. They are four guys from Chicago who are combining so many different avant-garde influences of yesteryears and today's underground music movement. Oh, and... their music will not make you yawn in the least.
I was hooked from the very first song I heard. If these guys aren't currently gaining recognition, then I have a feeling that they (hopefully) will soon. Their album, Open Season, is an artfully constructed piece of innovative tribal pop. It's a movement that's catching steam these days, but it's quite a challenge to hit the nail on the head; these guys have hit every nail breezily. Their creations are layered, intricate, and impressively flowing. There are various kinds of glittering synth, off-kilter beats, electric guitar, brazen bass, and hypnotizing vocals.
If this is the first time you've heard YAWN and you find yourself in a state of wonderment, do yourself a solid and get their album, Open Season. It's a journey of psychedelic proportions. No one gets left behind.
