I’ve always had a thing for drum and bass. I credit that to my younger brother, David. When he and I were growing up in Melbourne, he was heavily into listening to it, creating it, and engaging in its burgeoning underground scene.
My brother’s influence rubbed off. Years later and I’m still interested to explore the way that drum and bass has evolved, and how it gets worked into new music.
I recently came across this track "Blink" by London newcomer Zaflon, aka Dan Clarke. Featuring the vocals of Kentucky-based vocalist Mina Fedora, the track is best defined (loosely) as drum and bass. It seems Dan also has a lengthy background in the sound, and in fact, he has an extensive history entrenched in all things music.
Dan Clarke boasts a music degree from Westminster University. His musical dabblings span the range from metal bands to theatre soundtracks and acoustic EPs, as well as forays into electro, hip-hop, grime, garage and -- not surprising given this track -- drum and bass.
"Blink" from Zaflon will be officially released next week. There's also whispers of an EP release before the year is out. Get on Zaflon's Facebook for more.
