Why do we like this?
There are few artists as compelling and thought-provoking in modern music as American singer songwriter Nika Roza Danilova, better known as Zola Jesus. Combining elements of industrial, gothic, classical, and experimental electronica with philosophical lyrics and haunting vocals, Danilova is somewhere between Kate Bush and The Knife, with a little bit of Joy Division thrown into the mix.

Late last year, Danilova was invited to perform at New York's famed Guggenheim Museum, and to commemorate the one-off performance, she abandoned her usual electronic-based show, recruiting legendary industrial pioneer JG Thirlwell to reinterpret her songs as classical compositions. The results were absolutely spellbinding.

Today marks the release of Version, a compilation of nine tracks reworked by Danilova and Thirlwell from the Guggenheim show. "Fall Back" is the first release from the album, and as the sole new song recorded, there is no comparison to make to an electronic version, but this takes nothing away from what is another emotive piece of work from the dynamic 24-year-old. Her swirling voice powers over uplifting strings and thundering percussion, while her pleading lyrics of "I would do anything to be the one with you," give "Fall Back" an organic, emotional edge.

Modern music doesn't get much better than this.
